UX Project

Summary

This project was part of the course Foundations of User Experience, which I took at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The objective of this assignment was to design an application that would make it easier for students to navigate the campus and the university as a whole.

This project was a team project where I was assigned the role of the media manager. I had to take care of all wireframes, pictures, and whiteboards we created as a team.

In this project, we applied many design principles. We followed the design thinking process and explored the five stages of this method. First, we empathized with the user. Then we defined the problem, created our ideas to solve that problem, created a prototype, and gathered feedback from other teams.

The result of this project was a wireframe of the application.

Analysis

One of the great things we did as a team was to follow the principles of design thinking. That helped us to identify the core problems of the students that attend the MSOE university. We conducted interviews with potential users, which helped us understand that the core problem of many students is that they find it very hard to discover new and upcoming events that they would be interested in.

At MSOE, there are many events and clubs, and students are flooded with great opportunities to socialize and meet new people. The problem is to find the right events that the given person would be interested in. And that was what the application focused on.

We brainstormed some ideas and designed a prototype in Figma. Our app focuses on delivering relevant and highly personalized information to the students about all the upcoming events and various clubs that the students might be interested in.

We also incorporated various design principles, such as gamification. In the app, students collect points for attending events, and as a reward, they can buy physical items and school merchandise.

From the feedback we gathered, many other students found this design great, and many said they would be happy if an app like this existed.
